I am an econometrician, trained in the theory and drawn to the empirical side of it. I work with macroeconomic and financial data, mostly on questions where the answer is contested: whether governments really move inflation and growth, what central bank independence changes, how shocks travel between financial markets, what makes some economies grow faster than others. Recent papers are in Economics Letters, Finance Research Letters and the International Review of Applied Economics, and I write for The Conversation UK on inflation, trade and labour markets.
At Sheffield Business School I am Course Leader for the undergraduate Economics programmes (BSc Economics and BA Business Economics) and I have taught economics and econometrics at undergraduate and postgraduate level for over fifteen years. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and supervise doctoral candidates as Director of Studies on the PhD and DBA programmes.
I sit on the editorial board of the Asian Journal of Economic Modelling and I review manuscripts for ABS-listed journals including Resources Policy, Studies in Economics and Finance, the International Journal of the Economics of Business and Global Business and Economics Review.
